Separate statements providing reasons for the departures disclosed that Akowuah was leaving the Accra-based giants following the expiration of his three-year deal at the club.

"Accra Hearts of Oak Sporting Club has taken the option not to renew the contract of midfielder Malik Akowuah following the expiration of his three-year deal at the club. We thank him for his professional service to the club and wish him the very best in his future endeavours," the statement said.

Akowuah joined Hearts of Oak from Medeama SC in November 2016 but endured an underwhelming stint with the Phobians.

Sowah and Alhassan were released from their respective contracts with the club wishing them the best of luck in their careers.

Sowah joined Hearts from bitter rivals Kumasi Asante Kotoko in 2018. His departure leaves the Phobians with only Richmond Ayi and Ben Mensah as first team goalkeepers.

Auroras graduate Alhassan leaves the Phobians after failing to impress in a year with the first team.
