Background

Ghana had imposed a three-week lockdown on three major cities (Greater Accra, Kasoa and Greater Kumasi) identified as coronavirus hotspots in March. The lockdown affected public gatherings including sports activities.

The president lifted the lockdown on April 20 but extended the ban on public gatherings that include Ghanian elaborate funerals, church services and schools.

On May 31, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in his 10th update on the easing of restrictions, announced that individual non-contact sports can go ahead with the appropriate social distancing and hygiene protocols.
