Stop influencing public against paying revenue; DCE urges assembly
The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Birim North in the Eastern Region, Mr Remond Nana Damptey has urged assembly members in the district to desist from influencing the public against paying tolls to the assembly.
He said such a practice will derail efforts of the assembly towards generating enough revenue locally to support it’s development agenda for the ultimate benefit of the people.

He, however, charged assembly members to rather rally behind the assembly to collect the needed revenue to fund it’s development projects to improve the living conditions of the people in the district.
Mr Damptey gave the advice during a meeting with assembly members to officially hand over 38 brand new motorbikes to the 38 assembly members and government appointees at the district capital, New Abirem.
The Internally-Generated Fund, Mr Damptey stated, “is the key to the progress of all Metropolitan Municipal and District Assemblies and all hands must be on deck towards increasing the needed funds for the assembly to execute projects”.

He further admonished them to support the assembly so that with a sense of togetherness, they could work effectively and efficiently to address the challenges confronting the district.
Mr Damptey commended the assembly members for their unflinching support to the assembly which brought a lot of infrastructure development in the district.
Regarding the new motorbikes, Mr Damptey explained that the 38 assembly members comprising 26 elected and 12 government appointees who would be using them will be able to reach out to the people in the various communities in pursuance of their duties.
He called for their maximum usage for the benefit of all the electoral areas.
Safety regulations
He told them to adhere to road safety regulations by wearing helmets regularly when riding, adding that they should not ride without helmets.
The motorbikes, Mr Damptey said, were primarily meant for assembly members to help discharge their duties effectively and efficiently.
Mr Damptey urged all assembly members including the government appointees not to give out the motorbikes to children below 18 years to ride.
Vision
He appealed to members and staff of the assembly to support him to promote the vision and aspirations of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
According to the DCE, it was only when they joined forces that they could work to improve the living standard of the people in the district.
