Dr Nduom begins Accra tour; Promises to spread development to all communities

The Presidential Candidate of the Progressive People's Party (PPP), Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom, has promised to spread development projects to all the remote communities as part of his plan to address rural-urban migration.

He said the hardship in most of the remote communities had made living conditions very difficult for the people and as a result forced many of the youth to relocate to the cities.

Addressing residents of Obom to begin his Greater Accra regional campaign tour yesterday, Dr Nduom said if elected to govern Ghana, he would make sure that every community in the country" benefit from adequate development projects, especially good roads and quality healthcare system."

"Communities like Obom will not be neglected as my government will address all the issues that hamper the wellbeing of the people" he said.

He bemoaned the lack of good roads, adequate healthcare facilities, potable drinking water, absence of jobs in remote communities, saying that it was one of the major reasons that cause the youth to leave their towns to big cities.

Dr Nduom, as part of this two-day tour, is expected to address supporters of the party at Ablekuma and some parts of the region.

Economy needs strong hands

Dr Nduom said Ghana's economy needed a good manager, considering the fact that "the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government has messed up the economy."

"The NDC has been given eight years to build the economy but they have nothing concrete to show for all this years. Giving them another four years would be a huge mistake,"he said.

IEA debate boycott

Dr Nduom said the decision of President Mahama to boycott this year's Institute of Economic Affairs debate was a proof that he had nothing to tell Ghanaians.

"Those who are expecting President Mahama to participate in the IEA debate are only asking him to come and lie. He is afraid to come because he has nothing to tell Ghanaians about the state of the economy," he said.

Health concerns

Earlier before he began his tour in the Greater Accra Region, Dr Nduom addressed some residents of Adidome in the Volta Region to end his tour in that region.

He pledged to introduce health reforms aimed at eliminating preventable diseases, especially, malaria and cholera when given the nod to govern Ghana.

According to him, it was disheartening that Ghana, at this age of modernisation, continued to battle with preventable diseases when countries in Europe have eliminated the disease.

"A PPP government will not sit down for preventable diseases like malaria, cholera, monococal meningitis and guinea worm to destroy Ghana. Just like countries in the Americas, Europe and elsewhere became malaria free, my leadership will make sure that all these diseases are eliminated," Dr Nduom said.

He said “The PPP doesn’t believe in adhoc measures in dealing with issues concerning health particularly, when it is about preventable diseases”.
