The rehabilitation works, which were undertaken at a total cost of GH¢200, 000 formed part of activities marking the 30th anniversary of the business relationship between Bamson and Sikkens.

The company also presented a 45KVA stand-by generator, 15 beds with 15 mattresses, bedside lockers, 20 rechargeable solar lamps and some hospital supplies to the centre.

Presenting the renovated facility and the items to the hospital authorities, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the company, Mr Kwame Ofosu Bamfo (Sikkens), said the gesture by his company was also to give back to Tease, where he had his basic and middle school education.

He said Sikkens had also set up a health insurance foundation to help the needy in the Afram Plains area to access quality healthcare.
He recalled that 20 years ago he presented kerosene fridges to the centre to help improve health delivery in the area.

Sikkens honoured

In appreciation of Mr Bamfo’s continuous support for Tease, the chiefs and people held a durbar to honour him. The ceremony was attended by some traditional rulers, the Kwahu Afram Plains South District Chief Executive, Mr Ibrahim Issaka, and the Member of Parliament (MP) for Afram Plains South, Mr Joseph Boateng.

The Presbyterian Church of Ghana and the Kwahu Presbytery Health Services also honoured Mr Bamfo for his philanthropic work in the area. A street at Tease was also named after him.

The CEO expressed his appreciation for the honour done him and said it would inspire him to do more for less-privileged communities in the country.

He advised the youth to take their studies seriously and pledged his continuous support for education in the area.

“We have provided computers for the Presbyterian and Catholic senior high schools, (SHS) at Tease. The Sikkens Education Trust Fund was also established to support needy, brilliant pupils/students,” he said.

The Chairman of the Kwahu Presbytery Health Services Area Board, Rev F. G. A. Bawuah, thanked Mr Bamfo for helping to improve healthcare in the Afram Plains.

The Krontihene of Forifori, Nana Adu Pako II, promised to give Mr Bamfo nine plots of land to undertake any development project of his choice.

He appealed to Mr Bamfo and his foreign partners to help construct a bridge on the Volta Lake for the people instead of the pontoon they use.

Low level of Volta Lake

Mr Ibrahim Issaka said the level of the water in the Volta Lake had fallen drastically and if the rains failed this year, a new site would have to be found for the pontoon to land.
