Ghanaian farmers warned to be wary of fake fertilisers
Ghanaian farmers have been cautioned to be wary of fake fertilisers as Yara products on the market being sold.

According to the Retail Sales Manager of the Yara Ghana Limited, Mr Otoo-Mensah, some persons were using the company’s branded sack to sell their fertilisers on the market.
“A lot of people during farming season fake the Yara fertilizer. They do this by acquiring the fertiliser and after they had used the product, they rebag the sack with anything including fake fertilisers, and sand then pass it out as Yara product on the market,” he explained.
He claimed that under the fertiliser subsidy programme, the Government of Ghana this year allocated 40,000 metric tonnes of fertiliser to Yara for distribution to farmers.
He said while the company had since imported the allocated quantity of fertilizer, others who were expected to also import some quantities had not done so and were rebagging some fake products for sale as Yara fertilisers.
Mr Otoo-Mensah, therefore, urged the public especially farmers to be wary of fake fertilisers being sold as Yara products adding that all distributors of Yara products had certifications and license to operate.
“Always ask for a distributor’s license or certificate before buying the product because all our distributors have been certified and trained to teach farmers on how to use the product,” he added.
He also warned the perpetrators of this heinous crime to desist from the practice since it had serious implications for consumers of farm produce in Ghana.
