Accident at Gomoa Okyereko claims four lives

An accident at Gomoa Okyereko on the Winneba-Accra highway last Tuesday has claimed the lives of four persons.

The accident, which occurred around 5:30a.m., involved a Mercedes Benz Sprinter bus with registration number ER 1779-14, which was from Accra heading towards Cape Coast, and another Sprinter bus with registration number ER 553-13 that was coming from Agona Swedru to Accra.

The dead, all males, have been identified as Yaro Zakari, Frank Assan, Kofi Nyamful and Aziz Adamu.

Yaro’s body has since been released to the family for burial in accordance with Islamic tradition.

Briefing the Daily Graphic, the Winneba Municipal Commander of the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) John Paul Akonde, said the Sprinter bus from Accra was overtaking a number of vehicles and in the process collided with the other sprinter bus from Swedru.

Thirty-eight passengers on board the two vehicles who were severely injured were rushed to the Winneba Government Hospital, the Trauma and Specialist Hospital at Winneba and the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.
