Oda Methodist College of Education holds 9th matriculation
The Oda Methodist College of Education in the Eastern Region held its 9th matriculation event at Akyem Oda last Tuesday to formally admit 405 fresh students to the school. The students comprised 249 males and 156 females.
The Principal of the college, Very Reverend Solomon Gyamerah, advised the students to eschew negative practices and study hard to achieve their objectives of becoming excellent teachers.

He urged the students to be guided by the huge sacrifices they made to gain admission to the college.
Very Rev. Gyamerah stressed that the college was noted for producing first-class teachers and would not compromise on its standards of excellence, uprightness and service.
He said the institution had established an office of religious affairs under the school’s chaplaincy. The office, he said, had counselors for each class to assist students who might face challenges with their studies.
Covid-19 pandemic education
He said in view of the prevailing incidence of the COVID-19, education was being transformed from the known face-to-face interactions to a blended teaching and learning where all forms of learning platforms, such as module and zoom, had been brought into play.
Very Rev. Gyamerah urged the students to use their smart phones for academic research rather than spending so much time on Facebook, Whatsapp, Tik tok, Twitter and the like.
He encouraged the students to be more open minded, time conscious, hardworking and also avoid making unwelcome and inappropriate sexual remarks or physical advances, stressing that since education came with responsibility, they ought to avoid irresponsible and care free attitudes.
“As teacher trainees, let’s always appear decent both within and outside the school environment. Let’s avoid acts that will entice a student or tutor to become a victim or fall prey to any form of sexual manipulation,” Very Rev. Gyamerah emphasised.
He appealed to the Ministry of Education to urgently provide the college with a bus to transport tutors and students for field trips and other needs.
The Director of Quality Assurance at the University of Education, Winneba, Professor Emmanuel Obed Acquah, advised the fresh students to lead exemplary lives and abide by the college’s rules and regulations as well as study hard in order to achieve their dreams.
