KsTU records highest enrollment since inception

The Kumasi Technical University (KsTU) has recorded the highest enrollment since the inception of the school.

According to the Vice Chancellor, Professor Osei-Wusu Achaw, it enrolled 5,401 freshers, comprising 64.5% males and 35.5% females this academic year.

“This year’s enrollment constitutes the highest ever we have recorded in any academic year since the establishment of this university”, the VC gladly noted.

He said the total student population of the University now stood at 12,704 comprising 68.7% males and 31.3% females.

The VC said the percentage of the total student population in TVET was 51%, and that the University was inching closer to the GTEC norm of 60%.

19th Congregation

He was speaking, during the 19th Congregation of the KsTU, held in Kumasi on Saturday, March 11, 2023.

Present at the ceremony included the Bantamahene, Baffour Owusu Amankwatia VI, who represented the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, and Prof Dr Ben  Baffoe Bonnie, the Chairman of the KsTU Council.

The rest include Professor Mohammed Salifu, the Director General of the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission(GTEC), Dr Asamoah Kyei, the Director General of the Commission of Tertiary and Vocational Education Training(CTVET), as well as, some family members and friends of the graduating class.

In all, a total of 2014 graduands were awarded, representing 1,614 Higher National Diploma (HND), and 400 CTVET Diploma honours.

New programmes

He said, the University, has this year introduced eleven new programmes.

“These include MSc Accounting Information Systems, Building Services Engineering, Architectural Engineering, Btech Communications Design, Btech Banking Technology & Finance, Btech Interior Design, Btech Artificial Intelligence, BSc. Mechatronics, and
a Pre-Engineering programme”, he noted.

The Pre-Engineering programme, he said, provided an avenue for non-science students to live their dreams of studying engineering programs in spite of their non-science background..

The introduction of these new programmes, Prof Osei-Wusu Achaw, said formed part of KsTU’s vision to develop a cadence of programmes that will invariably drive the boundaries of knowledge while establishing a grip for successful graduates in solving Africa’s technological challenges and beyond.
