The beneficiary schools included Pedu M/A Basic ‘A’, Abura T.I. Ahmadiyya Basic ‘B’, Rev. Alec Jones Memorial Methodist School at Nkanfoa, and St Cyprian Anglican Basic School at Effutu Koforidua.

Mr Ewusi said the gesture was part of his vision to improve the standard of education in the Cape Coast North Constituency, many of them without desks.

He appealed to the pupils and students to take their studies seriously, stressing that anything short of that could undermine their future prospects.

He said plans were underway to replicate the gesture in other parts of the region.

Appreciation for desks

The Assistant Headmaster of Rev. Alec Jones Memorial Methodist Basic School, Rev. Francis Edu-Buandoh, who received the items on behalf of the school, lauded Mr Ewusi for his benevolence.

He said the donation of the desks was timely, adding that it would boost education in the area “since some of the learners stand on their feet during class hours”.

Biggest challenge

The Headmistress of Abura T.I. Ahmadiyya Baisc ‘B’ School, Hameeda Haruna Appiah, described Mr Ewusi as an “angel” who had solved the school’s biggest challenge.

The Logistics and Technical and Vocational Education and Training Officer of the Cape Coast Metropolitan Education Office, Yusif Yakubu, who led Mr Ewusi and his team to distribute the desks, commended the philanthropist for his contribution to rescue the dire situation of lack of furniture for learners in the metropolis.

“Inadequate furniture in public schools has been a headache to the authorities of Ghana Education Service,” Mr Yakubu lamented.

He appealed to technical teachers in the public schools “to use broken desks in their various schools for practical work by teaching the students to repair those desks to ensure that there are enough desks for the schools”.
