Assembly member rewards teachers, others in electoral area

As part of the efforts to motivate teachers in his electoral area to remain committed to their work, the Assembly member for the Manso Abore Ebom electoral area in the Amansie West District, Elder Asare Brew, has organised an award ceremony for them.

The objective was to reward the teachers and other government workers in the district for their dedication to duty and to encourage them to continue to give of their best to the community.

In all, 112 individuals, including teachers, health workers and security personnel were rewarded for their contribution to the development of the district in general.

The recipients included 92 teachers from both public and private schools, including other individuals.

At a ceremony to present the items to the deserving recipients, Elder Brew said it was necessary that people were appreciated for their roles in their communities in order to spur them on and also serve as a motivation for others to emulate.

Elder Brew, who is also the Amansie West District Director for the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), was hopeful that the recognition would motivate the recipients to continue to work hard to impact the development of the district, particularly in the education sector.

The items presented included gas cylinders, TV sets and educational bursaries for some students.

Eight students from the electoral area, who got admission into senior high school, were supported with a cash of GH¢1,000.00 each.

He explained that the majority of the recipients were teachers because, “they play a very important role in the community, and the development of this country.

There is, therefore, the need to show appreciation for their work.”

Elder Brew said teachers in remote areas faced a lot of challenges such as accommodation, lack of classroom blocks, transportation, bad roads and lack of motivation.

The least he could do, he said, was to show appreciation for their sacrifices and appeal to them to not abandon the children.

Regret

He, however, expressed regret about the havoc illegal mining was causing to the environment in the area, which was also affecting the education of the residents.

The assembly member said some of the students had abandoned the classrooms and resorted to illegal mining as a means of survival and called for a concerted effort by all stakeholders to stem the tide.
