Anglican Education Unit climaxes diocesan quiz contest
The second edition of the Anglican Education Unit Diocesan Quiz Competition climaxed last Thursday, with the Teshie Anglican ‘A’ Basic School and St Justin Anglican ‘2’ JHS emerging the ultimate winners for the basic and JHS levels respectively.

At the JHS level, the trio from the St Justin Anglican ‘2’ JHS School bagged 58 points, while those at the St Augustine Anglican JHS obtained 44 points to place second, beating the St Cyprian’s (2) JHS contestants with only one point. The St Joseph’s Anglican JHS, which placed fourth, secured 40 points.
For the primary level, the winning school bagged 41 points to beat the contenders from Epiphany Anglican Basic, which scored 36 points to place second, while the La Anglican AMA Primary took the third place with 31 points and the Bishop Girls’ Basic School picked up 28 points to place fourth.
The highly competitive quiz, which began as a sheer display of intellectual prowess among the 61 participating schools at the beginning, was reduced to eight schools contesting at the grand finale.
The keenly contested competition challenged the students on subjects on their courses in the school curriculum and their knowledge of the church’s education unit.
Prizes
The winners at the JHS level walked away with a mobile phone and certificate each for the contesting students, while a plaque and a cash prize went to their school.
For placing second, the contestants also had a mattress and certificate each and a cash prize for the school, while the contestants for the third place took away a bag of stationery and certificate each and a cash prize for the school.
Those who placed fourth each received a certificate and a cash prize for the school..
For the basic level, the contestants from the Teshie Anglican ‘A’ Basic School, who won at that level, received a tablet, and a certificate each while the school got a cash prize and a plaque.
For placing second, the contestants from the Epiphany Anglican Basic also had a bag of stationery and a certificate each and a cash prize for the school, while those from the La Anglican AMA Primary went home with a bag of stationery.
The girls from the Bishop Girls’ Basic School came fourth and each received a certificate and a Cash prize for the school.
Platform
The Regional Manager of the Anglican Education Unit, Marian Cobblah, said “the competition is a good platform to enhance the teaching of the facilitators and test the learning abilities of the students, as well as an opportunity to raise the standard of education of the unit.”
She expressed the hope that the students would apply whatever they were taught in their daily lives and, therefore, congratulated them on reaching the final stage of the competition.
Advice to students
The Quiz Mistress, who also doubled as the Monitor and Supervisor of the Anglican Education Unit in the Accra Diocese, Ruth Attenkah, commended all the participating schools for exhibiting resilience throughout the competition and urged them not to relent in their efforts to study harder.
She said the competition was a confidence booster and would inspire greatness in the students.
