The project forms part of the SHI objective of alleviating hunger and poverty, assisting small scale farmers and related enterprises to become self-reliant in meeting the needs of families and communities through training, education and other forms of assistance.

The Country Director of SHI Ghana, Mr Benjamin Kusi, said the training was meant to encourage the youth to venture in agric and give them the requisite skills to improve agric productivity.

Mr Kusi added that the ultimate goal was to educate rural citizens to understand life challenges in rural communities and also help to produce and distribute farm produce to improve the livelihoods of the rural citizens.

The Executive Director of SHI, Mrs Nora Tobin, said SHI was collaborating with the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, in association with the Kwadaso College of Agriculture (Kumasi), the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and the Kita College of Agriculture, to develop practical manuals and implement research findings through the provision of new varieties.

Encouragement

Mrs Tobin encouraged the youth to treat agriculture as an important business and urged them to work hard to assist their communities.

“Agriculture is not a punishment, but rather a lucrative business to improve one's life.

"I urge you to learn it well and impact others,” he added.

The Nkawkromhene, Nana Boayitey Kwafrom, who represented the Toasehene, Nana Ababio II, urged the youth to take advantage of the training to become agric business moguls.
