God determiner of election winner - Asantehene tells candidates

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, says only God will determine the winner of the December 7, 2020 polls.

He said if any of the presidential candidates thought that he or she would become the next President, that person should know that only God had that knowledge.

“It is the good things you say and do that God endorses,” he stated.

Courtesy call

Otumfuo Osei Tutu stated this when the presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), former President John Dramani Mahama, paid a courtesy call on him at the Manhyia Palace yesterday.

The courtesy call formed part of Mr Mahama’s six-day campaign tour of the Ashanti Region, which he started last Tuesday.

The Asantehene acknowledged that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and the presidential candidate of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Mr Ivor Kobina Greenstreet, had paid similar courtesy calls on him during their campaigns in the Ashanti Region.

Achievements

The Asantehene urged the former President to tell Ghanaians about what he did when he was President and would do when re-elected on December 7, 2020.

He urged Mr Mahama to tell the electorate what he could do for them as he embarked on his electioneering, adding that it was only on December 7, 2020, that the winner would be known.

He said he had always prayed and would continue to pray for him.

“I will continue to pray for you and ask for God’s guidance so that whatever you do will be progressive,” he said.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu urged Mr Mahama to also commit everything he did to God since it was God who determined who became President or a leader.

Response

For his part, Mr Mahama acknowledged the wise counsel of Otumfuo Osei Tutu to him.

He enumerated a number of projects he undertook as President with the support of Otumfuo Osei Tutu.

Mr Mahama mentioned the reconstruction of the Kejetia Market, the Tafo, Asawase and Atonsu markets, as well as hospital projects at Seiwa, the Afari Military Hospital and others in Fomena and Bekwai.

He also mentioned Asawase town roads, Suame town roads, Tafo, Kenyasi roads, Emena to Boadi, New Edubiase roads as some of the projects he executed within four years as President.

He said those projects did not include CHPS compounds, toilet facilities and other projects undertaken by metropolitan, municipal and district assemblies.
