Two robbers jailed 45 years
Two persons were yesterday sentenced to a total of 45 years in prison by the Accra Circuit Court for engaging in two separate robberies.

They are Patrick Kwame Addom, unemployed, who was sentenced to 25 years and Richard Thomas, unemployed, 20 years.
They pleaded not guilty to the charges of robbery but the court, presided over by Mr Francis Obiri, found them guilty and sentenced them accordingly.
Mr Obiri said robbery was on the ascendency in the country and urged all stakeholders to collaborate to address the situation.
Facts of first case
Prosecuting, Assistant State Attorney, Dora Quaye, told the court that on March 18, 2013 at about 8.30 p.m., Kwame Addom, in the company of one other person who is at large, hired the services of the complainant who was a taxi driver from the Kwame Nkrumah Circle to the La Girls’ School area at an agreed fare of GHc7.00.
On reaching their destination, the convict and his accomplice ordered the complainant to park and the convict forcefully removed the car key.
In the ensuing struggle, Kwame Addom pulled out a knife and wounded the complainant while his accomplice also stabbed the complainant three times at the back of his head.
The complainant, bleeding profusely, shouted for help and a taxi driver passing by chanced on the scene and raised an alarm.
People who answered the distressed call chased the suspects and managed to arrest Kwame Addom and subjected him to severe beating almost lynching him but for the timely arrival and intervention of the La police.
The complainant was rushed to the La Hospital where he was treated.
Second case
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Ernest Acheampong told the court that the complainant was a student of the University of Ghana, Legon and resided at Jean Nelson Aka Hall, Legon while the convict, Richard Thomas, was unemployed and lived on the premises of People of Vision Church, Korle Bu, Accra.
On November 2, 2014 at about 6 a.m.,the complainant was on her way from her hall of residence to Jubilee Hall to see a friend when Thomas, who was loitering on a bush path, ordered her to stop and hand over her mobile phone peacefully.
When the complainant refused to comply, Thomas attacked her and succeeded in robbing her of her Samsung T&T mobile phone valued at GH¢820.
Thomas then took to his heels but the shouts of the complainant attracted a witness in the case who jumped from the first floor of the Jubilee Hall, chased the convict, got hold of him and collected the mobile phone from him.
