NDA cuts sod for construction of classroom blocks in North East Region
The Northern Development Authority (NDA) has cut the sod for the construction of two classroom blocks with ancillary facilities for two public schools in the West Mamprusi and East Mamprusi municipalities in the North East Region.
The Haria Islamic School at Walewale, the West Mamprusi Municipal capital, is benefiting from a six-unit classroom block, while a three-unit classroom block is to be constructed at Suansobigi community in the East Mamprusi Municipality.

When completed, each of the projects will consist of toilet facilities, a head teacher's office, staff common room and furniture.
The projects, which are being funded by the $1 Million per Constituency initiative, are expected to be completed in six months to help create an enabling environment for the pupils to improve academic activities.
Promoting education
At separate ceremonies to cut the sod for the commencement of construction, the Deputy Chief Executive of the NDA, Mrs Lariba Abudu, said the gesture formed part of the government's quest to ensure that the people got their share of the $1 Million per Constituency fund.
She said creating an enabling environment for effective teaching and learning was the topmost priority of the NDA, for which reason it had decided to use part of the fund to provide educational infrastructure for communities in the area.
"Today, we are cutting sod for work to begin, but not only in the North East Region. We are giving sites to the contractors in all the five regions of the north for work to begin.
“We are basing it on the needs of the people: some constituencies want electricity, others too want water or schools, so we look at their pressing needs and provide them," she explained.
Mrs Abudu indicated that the NDA, through the various assemblies, chose those communities for the projects because they currently held classes in dilapidated structures.
She added that aside from the projects awarded on contract, the NDA was also conducting evaluation to give out sites for commencement of construction of a number of projects in Northern Ghana.
Promoting quality education
The East Mamprusi Municipal Chief Executive, Mr Abdul-Nasir Danladi, expressed the hope that the projects, when completed, would go a long way to promote quality education delivery in the area.
He urged the community members to monitor the projects to ensure their early completion.
The Chief of Suansobigi community, Naa Wuni Bugri, commended the government for the gesture and appealed for more social amenities in the community to accelerate development and also help improve on the standard of living in those areas.
