NHIA records 13.6% increase in Ashanti Region - mobile renewable service plays role

The Ashanti Regional Directorate of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) recorded a 13.6 per cent increase in enrolment in the 2018/2019 operational year.

The scheme recorded a total membership of 1,947,224 in 2018 as against 2,212,051 in 2019.

According to the Regional Director of NHIA, Mr Kwadwo Tweneboa-Kodua, the gains were made through the use of the introduction of the mobile renewable service in the country.

Mr Tweneboa-Kodua announced this at the 2019 end of year review meeting of the NHIA in Kumasi last Tuesday.

The event brought together more than 70 healthcare providers to look at the scheme and other related issues and also plan for the new year.

Mr Tweneboa-Kodua explained that out of the number of the total enrolment of 2,212,051, a total of 1,096,224 representing about half of its membership, used the new mobile renewal module to renew their membership which he described as very crucial in the sustenance of the scheme.

Commendation

The regional director attributed the gains made to the dedication and commitment of the staff of the scheme in the region and urged them to continue to do more to enhance the operations of the scheme.

He was upbeat that the scheme was doing everything possible to leverage technology to bring convenience and improvement in its operations to get the best for the nation and its cherished members.

Awards

Mr Tweneboa-Kodua stated that despite the numerous challenges that confronted the scheme, four districts in the Ashanti Region were among the recipients of various awards instituted by the national headquarters of the scheme.

He mentioned the districts that received awards as: the Manhyia District which won the overall best district for membership in Ghana, the Obuasi District which took home the overall best district for innovative NHIS Mobile Renewal Service.

The Ahafo Ano South also won the second best district in NHIA Mobile Renewal Service while the Amansie East District won the award for a well-kept office vehicle in the country.

The regional director urged the various schemes in the region to emulate the good examples exhibited by the award-winning schemes and also called on the award-winning districts not to be complacent with the gains made but to continue to do more for the scheme and the development of the nation’s healthcare development.
