The Greater Accra Regional Security Council (REGSEC) on Sunday started demolishing beachfront nightclubs, eateries and other hospitality facilities at Laboma Beach in the La Dadekotopon Municipality because they were in the buffer zone of the Kpeshie Lagoon.
This followed the expiration of the 21-day notice to the operators to vacate.
Among the structures demolished is the popular Pink Flamingo Lounge.

The demolition exercise, which started in the early hours of Sunday [September 13], has also affected several other structures located within the protected zone.
The exercise follows an August 7 directive to remove structures encroaching on waterways and their buffer zones as part of broader measures to address flooding and restore natural drainage channels in the Greater Accra Region.
The Kpeshie Lagoon and its surrounding areas have come under increasing pressure from development, with environmental concerns raised over the impact of structures built within areas meant to be protected.
The ongoing exercise is expected to continue as authorities work to clear other developments identified as occupying the protected zone.
The demolition has drawn attention because of the high-profile nature of some of the affected establishments, including the well-known Pink Flamingo Lounge, which has been a popular destination along the Laboma beachfront.
The 48 Engineer Regiment of the Ghana Armed Forces is leading the demolition exercise.
The exercise forms part of measures by the government to mitigate the impact of flooding in Accra, particularly following the June 29 floods.
Commanding Officer of the 48 Engineer Regiment, Lieutenant Colonel Frank Osei Amponsah, said the exercise is being carried out under the Post-Flood Mitigating Task Force established by the government following the floods recorded across the country in June and July.
