Beneficiaries were screened for various diseases including breast  disorders, malaria, skin diseases, cholera, eye infections, weight-related diseases and blood pressure.

Those found with severe conditions were given free medication by medical practitioners from the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, Ridge Hospital and other private hospitals.

The outreach programme was organised by the Lutheran Hour Ministries Ghana in partnership with the Jewel Foundation, a non-governmental organisation (NGO).

Reason for screening

The Country Director of the Lutheran Hour Ministries, Mr Justice Oman, said regular health screening could prevent people from contracting diseases.

"Health issues are a major concern, so we thought it wise to bring the screening to the doorsteps of these people since most of them cannot afford medical care," he added.

Mr Oman stated that the organisation would also embark on the same project in communities such as Sodom and Gomorrah and Mensah Guinea, all in Accra.

He called on the general public and the media to play an active role in educating Ghanaians to adopt healthy lifestyles.
