Commit yourselves to studies to achieve academic excellence

The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Asuogyaman, Mr Thomas Ampem Nyarko, has advised students writing this year’s West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) in the area to commit themselves to their studies in order to achieve academic excellence.

He urged them not to be distracted but to believe in themselves as they commenced their final examination.

“The huge infrastructure (classroom blocks and library facilities) the government has invested in the schools in the district will mean nothing if you do not translate the benefits of such investment into excellent academic performance,” Mr Nyarko indicated.

Visit

The chief executive gave the advice when he visited some public senior high schools in the district to acquaint himself with preparations by the students towards the WASSCE.

The visit was also to encourage and motivate the students for high performance in their examination.

The schools visited were Boso Senior High Technical, Anum Presbyterian Senior High, Apegusu Senior High, Akwamuman Senior High and Adjeina Senior High schools.

The candidates were presented with some writing materials to aid them in their examination. Each of the about 2,500 candidates received a branded mathematical set, two pens, a ruler and a pencil.

Advice

The DCE further advised them to desist from any form of cheating during the examination. He also asked them not to entertain fear, since the questions they were going to answer were reflections of the topics they had covered in the classroom.

“All of you have dreams of attaining higher education and being self-reliant in the near future. You can realise your dreams if you do well in your WASSCE and further your education. Strive until you succeed,” Mr Nyarko stressed.

Registration

The DCE, who is also the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for the Asuogyaman Constituency, announced that the limited voter registration exercise would begin from April 28 to May 8, 2016 and urged students who had attained 18 years and above to  register to enable them to exercise their franchise in the November 7 general election.

Appreciation

On behalf of her colleagues, Miss Grace Opoku of the Adjeina Senior High School expressed appreciation to Mr Nyarko for motivating them to do well in the examination.

She also expressed concern over the lack of potable water in the school for which reason students had to trek some kilometres to get water and, therefore, appealed to the assembly to come to their aid.

In response, Mr Nyarko donated a  water tank to the school as an interim measure to contain the situation.
