She cited for instance that there was the need for all stakeholders of education in the country to help investigate the factors that contributed to the perennial poor performance in English language, Mathematics and Science at the basic and secondary levels.

Mrs Owusu Achiaw made the appeal at the launch of the 23rd annual conference of education directors in Kumasi. It attracted heads of basic schools in Kumasi, district directors, representatives of the Tertiary Education Workers Union, some regional directors of education and other stakeholders of education.

The conference, which is slated for August 22 - 26 this year, has the theme: “Investing in quality education for the transformation of the youth for the development of Ghana,” and is expected to be attended by all metropolitan, municipal and district directors of education and other stakeholders of education in the country.

Commendation

Mrs Owusu Achiaw lauded members of the Conference of Directors of Education (CODE) for their role in working towards the attainment of quality education in the country and urged them to continue in their supervision and monitoring to ensure that things went on well.

The National President of CODE, Mr Osei Kwadwo Hayford, urged the government to ensure that directors of education were provided with financial resources for supervision and monitoring of infrastructural development in various schools in their areas.

Mr Hayford, who is also the Director of Education for the Brong Ahafo Region, said the conference would be used to discuss ways of finding alternative sources of funding education in the country, and added that CODE was concerned with the funding of education hence the theme chosen for the conference.

The president of CODE explained that since directors of education played very distinctive roles in the educational development of the country, there was the need for them to be given all the financial resources so they could monitor, supervise and evaluate activities in connection with education in the country.

Mr Hayford said due to increased educational infrastructure, enrolment in basic and second cycle schools had also improved, hence the need to make the requisite resources available to enhance effective teaching and learning.
