The items, mainly food items and toiletries, included grains, sugar, bags of rice, cooking oil, bottles of drinking water, soft drinks and biscuits.

Others were sanitisers, gloves, cotton, sanitary pads, adult diapers, toilet rolls, tissues, towels, washing powder, cleaning detergents, disinfectants, deodorants, body cream among others.

The donation  was funded by the Old Girls with the kind support of Bel Aqua Ghana, Arla Foods Ltd. Ghana, Denk Pharma Ghana and Philips Pharmaceuticals Ghana Limited.

The donation was to bring together all members of the year group to celebrate their 20th anniversary since they completed their second cycle education and commemorate the 25th anniversary of MOGA.

After presenting the items to management of the hospital, the members of the year group visited the Children’s Ward and the Female Geriatric Ward of the facility to interact with some of the patients on admission and handed over some of the items to them.

Ceremony

The organiser for the 20th Anniversary Planning Committee, Dr Nana Konadu Addo, said the donation was to support the operations of the hospital as “we are committed to contributing significantly to the development of society.”

Apart from the donation, she said, the year group was organising a fundraising dinner to solicit funds to execute projects in their alma mater  ahead of the school's 2023 Speech and Prize-giving Day celebration.

Apart from the contributions of the 2003 year group, she commended some sponsors and individuals who supported the initiative of donating to the Accra Psychiatric Hospital.

“We are aware of some of the hardship these facilities face to cater for the inmates and the trauma and uneasiness the patients go through, so this is to support the hospital to encourage them to take good care of these vulnerable people in their care,” she stressed.

Appreciation

A Public Relations Officer of the hospital, Francisca Ntow, thanked members of the year group for the gesture, adding that “these consumables have come in handy and would help adequately cater and care for the inmates.”

She, however, noted that the hospital was in dire need of food items to feed and sustain the patients in the facility.

Also she said other logistics such as LEDs and light bulbs were needed and entreated the public to emulate the example of the 2003 Year Group of MOGA.
