Government must lift ban on universities’ employment – Prof Haruna Yakubu
The immediate past Vice Chancellor (VC) of the University for Development Studies (UDS), Professor Haruna Yakubu, has appealed to the government to lift the ban on the employment of staff for the public tertiary institutions in the country.

According to him, many public tertiary institutions were understaffed, thus the need to employ new staff to augment the staff strength to enable them train the requisite human resource for the country.
Investiture
Prof Yakubu made the call at the investiture and induction ceremony of Prof Gabriel Ayum Teye as the new VC of the UDS at the central administration of the university in Tamale today.
Prof Teye who is the fourth VC of the university was appointed on October 1, this year and was inducted into office by the Chairman of the Governing Council of the university, Prof Stephen B. Kandie.
He takes over from Prof Yakubu who served the university from 2010 to 2015.
Admonishment
Prof Yakubu urged his successor to build on the foundations he and other predecessors had laid to make the university a centre of excellence in the country and beyond.
He further implored the new VC to continue the university's African Leadership Lectures Series (ALLS) as part of efforts to enhance the global image of the school.
He noted that through the internationalization programme through the ALLS, the university was recently ranked third in the country.
Prof Yakubu called on the staff and all stakeholders of the university to cooperate with the new VC to enable him to advance the course of the school.
Pledge
Prof Teye in his remarks pledged to work hard to make the university attractive to both students and stakeholders.
Among the dignitaries who witnessed the ceremony were the VC of the University of Cape Coast (UCC), Prof D. D. Kuupole and the VC of the University of Mines and Technology (UMaT), Prof J.S.Y. Kuma.
