This is to help meet local needs for the benefit of the country.

He said there were too many research work wasting away on shelves at the academic institutions, and that could not be allowed to continue.

He therefore, suggested that government scholarships should be given to students researching projects of immense importance to the nation.

Speaking at the 46th Special Congregation of Postgraduate students of the CSUS in Kumasi, Prof Anane expressed the belief that there was the need to take a second look at the management of research projects in the country to enable the country to derive the full benefit from such research projects.

He appealed for support for universities and research institutions to monitor and design mechanisms for the utilisation of research findings and ongoing research works that were geared towards development.

He congratulated the graduates for their efforts and encouraged them to make the university proud by contributing effectively and positively to the development of the country.

Intellectual Property

The Immediate Past Director-General of the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), Ghana, Prof. Victor Agyemang,  said the country must add values to its minerals in order to earn more from them.

He said a natural resource rich like Ghana earned very little for what she produced and expressed the belief that focusing on intellectual property was what was needed for national development.

“Any country that places emphasis on postgraduate education ends up with citizens with a higher standard of living”, the immediate past CSIR director-general added.

He asked the graduates to use the skills acquired from the studies to create jobs and venture into entrepreneurship to contribute their quota to national development.
