‘Complement govt’s efforts to make life comfortable’

The President of the Beposo Residents Association in the United Kingdom, Ms Esther Owusu Adjei, has said the provision of infrastructure for the various communities should not be left to the government alone.

She explained that although it was the responsibility of the government to lead in the provision of such facilities, there was the need for the people to complement government’s efforts to make life comfortable for all, especially children.

According to her, complementing government’s efforts would speed up the process of providing the much needed infrastructure for the nation’s development.

Ms Adjei said this when the UK-based group handed over a 10-seater water closet facility to the chiefs and people of Beposo in the Bosomtwe District in the Ashanti Region.

The facility, which cost $6500, is to be used by the pupils and teachers of the Beposo D/A Basic School. It was funded by the members of the group towards the development of the community.

Before the construction of the facility, the pupils had to either queue to have access to the only toilet in the town or go to the bush to engage in open defecation, which is harmful to their health and other residents of the community.

Ms Adjei expressed concern about the situation where school girls absent themselves from school during menstruation or go through various challenges to attend school and urged parents to ensure that their children are kept in school.

She also asked parents to ensure that their children would desist from engaging in illegal mining, which is very common in that community.

The District Chief Executive for Bosomtwe, Madam Veronica Antwi-Adjei, praised the UK-based residents for providing some relief to the people.

The Headmaster of the Beposo D/A Basic School, Mr Alex Adu-Parko, said the provision of the toilet facility had relieved the schoolchildren and teachers from stress.
