A leader must be bold and courageous

A leader must be bold and courageous

Courage is often seen as the absence of fear.

However, the real definition of courage is one’s ability to do something that frightens him.

Courage is, therefore, the choice and willingness to confront uncertainty, agony, danger, intimidation or pain.

This is a quality that is really important for any leadership role.

Be strong and of a good courage: for unto this people shalt thou divide for an inheritance the land, which I swore unto their fathers to give them.

Only be thou strong and very courageous…  Have not I commanded thee?

Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid… Joshua 1:6-7,9

At the beginning of Joshua’s life as a leader, God exhorted him three times to be courageous.

This tells us that courage was very important for the ministry of Joshua to succeed.

It takes a courageous person to advance into fearful and frightening circumstances.

It takes courage to advance when the outcome is uncertain.  You need a lot of courage when failure looks like a real option.

When defeat is rallying around to welcome you, you need to be bold to press on to victory.

We all know that bystanders are waiting for our downfall.  It takes courage to continue on a certain course of action.

Without courage, you cannot call yourself a leader.

It takes courage to start a church or a business.

It takes courage to follow a new idea.

In fact, it takes courage to start many new things.  What about if it fails?

What about if it doesn’t?

Do you want to be a leader?

Then you will need to be courageous and bold! Be strong and be of good courage! Make up your mind to confront that uncertainty!

Make up your mind to overcome that which intimidates you!  Make up your mind to confront that danger that hovers over you! Don’t be afraid!

Seven times you need boldness

1. You need boldness to enter the presence of God.

Because of your sinful nature, you will always lack confidence when you approach God.

But God invites you to come boldly before his throne.  Be bold and do so.

Let us ,therefore, come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need. Hebrews 4:16

2. You need boldness to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ.  Peter and John needed boldness to speak the truth of God’s word.

Today, you need boldness to preach the gospel for a different reason.

The commonest gospel today is motivational and inspiring preaching about a better life on earth.

It takes so much boldness to continue to speak and to teach about the cross and the blood of Jesus Christ.

Now when they saw The boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marvelled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus.

Acts 4:13

3. You need boldness to expand your ministry and to take new territories that you know little about.

When I expanded into evangelism in different countries, I always sensed fear within.

I needed boldness to press on in new uncharted territories.

You may need to expand your product or your brand into new countries.

Take that bold step and confront the fear of stepping out.
Be strong and of a good courage: for unto this people shalt thou divide for an inheritance the land, which I swore unto their fathers to give them.

Only be thou strong and very courageous…  Have not I commanded thee?  Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid… Joshua 1:6,7,9

4. You need boldness to step into the anointing and to operate in the anointing.

It takes great boldness to operate in the gifts of prophecy, word of knowledge and miracles.

The step into the deepest anointing and the Holy of Holies is always a step of boldness.

Without boldness you will never see miracles and you not see the power of God.

Having ,therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus, Hebrews 10:19

5. You need boldness to counsel people and speak the Word of God.

Sometimes, you are intimidated when you have to counsel someone on something that you are struggling with yourself. Be bold!  It will help you overcome your own fears.

And many of the brethren in the Lord, waxing confident by my bonds, are much more bold to speak the word without fear. Philippians 1:14

6. You need boldness to turn away from certain people.

These may be people you have been used to.

They may be people you are not confident to turn away from.

But if you must turn away, you need to confront the fear and turn away all the same.

Boldness is necessary for every leader.

Then Paul and Barnabas waxed bold and said, It was necessary that the word of God should first have been spoken to you: but seeing ye put it from you, and judge yourselves unworthy of everlasting life, lo, we turn to the Gentiles. Acts 13:46

7. You will need boldness in the Day of Judgment.

Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world. 1 John 4:17

It is only courageous people who can be leaders.

Success or failure in leadership depends on being courageous.

It takes courage to stand up for the truth.

The reason why many people do not try new aspects of ministry is that they lack courage.  It takes courage to pray for the sick.

What if no one is healed?

It takes courage to minister the Spirit.

It takes courage to launch out!   Dear Leader, ask God for the Spirit of Joshua.

You will find yourself advancing on to higher heights when you are courageous!  Be bold and be courageous!
