UK to host GH music festival

The London bash, dubbed, GMW-UK 2016, would be launched at the Conference Hall of the Ghana High Commission, 13 Belgrave Square, London SW1X 8PN, in early August.

Speaking with Showbiz on his return from London earlier this week to streamline arrangements for the launch, GMW Director, Verus Nartey said the main aim of GMW-UK 2016 is to create the biggest platform in the UK to market Ghanaian music to the world.

“It is also a general way of selling Ghana to the world and attracting tourist traffic to Ghana specifically for the main GMW Festival next March,” the GMW Director said.

The GMW Festival is a seven-day music event held annually in Ghana in March, since 2013. It is the local music business’ biggest platform that brings together artistes, policy makers, stakeholders, the media and music users and it coincides with Ghana's Independence Day on March 6 each year.

The GMW Director and his delegation to London met with the Ghana High Commissioner, H.E. Victor Emmanuel Smith at the High Commission and said the Ghana mission has been extremely supportive of efforts to stage GMW-UK 2016.

“Big-name artistes from highlife, hiplife, dancehall, gospel and traditional Ghanaian music genres would be announced at the launch,” Verus Nartey stated.

He said personalities expected to attend the launch include the Ghana High Commissioner; a Director at the Ministry for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts; some notable Ghanaians in the UK, MUSIGA Executives and a representation of both local and international media.

London-based Ghanaian events producer-promoter, Freddie Annan is the Chairman of the GMW-UK organising committee while one of UK’s leading promoters of Afrobeat and Capital Xtra radio presenter, DJ Abrantee is the official ambassador for GMW-UK.
