Kofi Kordzi wins day for Hearts

An 88th minute powerful shot by Accra Hearts of Oak’s striker Kofi Kordzi propelled his team to come from behind to snatch the maximum three points from Dansoman-based Liberty Professionals in their epic match played at the Carl Rendolf Park at Dansoman on Sunday.

The goal, which came two minutes after substitute Hearts striker Bernard Atta had brought Hearts at par with Liberty Professionals, sparked spontaneous jubilation among the numerous fans who had trooped to the Carl Rendolf park in their numbers.

Liberty Professionals who were chasing their second victory in the five-week Premier League opened the scoring line under a minute when Michael Sefah surged above his markers to connect a corner kick with a beautiful header.

Early goal

The early goal by Liberty completely silenced the vociferous Hearts fans, compelling them to virtually sit on thorns for 86 minutes as they watched their team squandering numerous goal scoring opportunities throughout the first half and continued to mess up the chances created in the second half until substitute Bernard Atta came to their rescue in the 86 minute.

When Liberty got the first goal, they resorted to time wasting as they feigned injury at the least opportunity and recoiled into their shells, allowing Hearts to take total control of the game.

Hearts responded to the early goal against them with deft touches, ball possession and interpositional passes as they attacked from the flanks and pushed Liberty into their half, creating numerous scoring chances which were all squandered.

Goalkeeper Renduf Mensah

Hearts should have turned the game in their favour in the 10th, 17th, 20th, 44th and 45th minutes when they had only goalkeeper Renduf Mensah at their mercy but Kofi Kordzi and Joseph Esso who were presented with those glorious opportunities squandered them to the disappointment of their fans.

On some occasions, goalkeeper Mensah proved equal to the task with brilliant saves to deny Hearts.

The second half saw both teams bringing in fresh legs, but it was Hearts who profited from the changes as substitute Bernard Atta made his presence felt in the 86th minute with a beautiful goal from goalmouth melee.

Two minutes later Kofi Kordzi bulldozed his way into the vital area of Liberty Professionals and released a powerful strike which caught goalkeeper Renduf Mensah flatfooted.

Kordzi’s match winner gave Hearts the tonic to face Kumasi Asante Kotoko in another dicey encounter at the Accra Sports Stadium in their sixth week match.
