Disband national team Management Committees -- Augustt
Former Accra Great Olympics coach, Ken Augustt, has called for the immediate dissolution of the management committees of the various national teams as their impact was rarely felt.
He charged the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to come clear on their role or consider them as a duplication of functions which could be performed by other members of the technical teams, making them a waste on the meagre resources of, particularly, the Black Stars.
Pouring his frustration to the Graphic Sports in an interview, the former Tema Youth coach said it was time the FA did away with that committee to save some funds because he did not see their impact as far as the Black Stars was concerned.
According to him, that role was highly unnecessary, considering the number of staff around the team who could equally do whatever the management committee members do.
''My worry is about the roles of certain people in the GFA. You know in the GFA we have the executive committee and then we have management committees for all the national teams which comprises not less than seven people.
''So the question is, what are their job schedules as management committee members of the national teams when we have technical directors of the FA?” So far, we have two technical directors -- Lippert and Prof. Mintah.
''Then in recent times, Chris Hughton was also brought in as technical advisor of the Black Stars. Meanwhile, the Black Stars have coaches and technical staff. Then going to the World Cup, they went with scouts and also four local coaches,” he explained.
''So what is the role of the so-called management committee of the Black Stars because Osei Kuffour is the only technical man I know. Hitherto, we were having Stephen Appiah as a coordinator; we have a lot of positions in the team so what was he coordinating for the Black Stars.
''We have a protocol officer who does the ticketing of the players so what was he coordinating?” he asked.
''I am worried because we have too many people around the national team'’, he observed.
