Flings sets sight on relay

Ghanaian sprinter, Flings Owusu-Agyapong, has turned her attention to the women’s 4x100m relay after missing out in the 100m race over the weekend.

The 27-year-old, who clocked 11.43 seconds in the heats but missed qualification to the next stage, having placed fourth behind Netherland’s Dafne Schippers (who clocked 11.16 secs), Tatjana Pinto of Germany (11.31), and Khamica Bingham of Canada  ( 11.41).

The USA-based Ghanaian sprinter was, however, disappointed in her time although she thought she went into the race much relaxed and had a good start to the gun.

“I wasn’t that nervous going in, I was relaxed and ready. I had good reaction to the gun, I had a little stumble and wasn’t able to recover as well to get into a great racing position,” she tweated after her race.

Flings, who once run 11.26seconds early in the season,  believes she can do better than the time she clocked at the Olympic Games and want to make up for the lost chance with a good performance in  the relay.

“It wasn’t really my best start; it’s one of those things. I really didn’t put my race together as well as I should have. I know right now that I didn’t run faster. I’m going to correct my mistakes for the relay and looking forward to doing well in that,” she stated.

Meanwhile, UK-based Sean Safo-Antwi also failed to qualify for the men’s 100m semis after finishing in sixth position in his heats in time of 10.43 seconds, so too did middle distance runner,  Alex Amankwah, who was eliminated in his 800m heats last Friday.
