PPP to make teaching profession more attractive — Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom
The Presidential Candidate of the Progressive People's Party (PPP), Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom, has assured teachers that there will be no salary delays or arrears if he is elected to become the President of Ghana.

He also said his administration would implement comprehensive programmes that would ensure that every teacher "is able to own a house at any preferred location in the country".
Addressing the executive of the Ghana National Association of Teachers in Accra yesterday ahead of his campaign trip to the Western Region, Dr Nduom said his administration would introduce more incentives to motivate more people to opt for the teaching profession.
"I do not understand why teachers should be made to suffer. Why should their salaries be delayed? Why should they endure pain and hardship when they are the ones helping shape and prepare the youth for the next generation of leadership?" he asked.
The purpose of the meeting was for Dr Nduom to explain his party's agenda and policy for teachers should the PPP win the December 7 polls.
The event also afforded GNAT executives the opportunity to ask him questions relating to the progress of the education sector.
The PPP delegation was received by the General Secretary of GNAT, Mr David Ofori Acheampong.
Vision for teachers
Outlining some of the policies he intended to introduce if elected, Dr Nduom said a PPP government would pay teacher trainee allowances and added that other incentives would also be made available to boost their morale.
"My administration will embark on comprehensive programmes that include the provision of houses for all teachers," he said.
Under his presidency, Dr Nduom said every school in Ghana would have a library and there would also be a community library in each district of the country.
According to him, the PPP has in place an updated research paper on how the education sector will be managed under his presidency.
The research paper, Dr Nduom said, contained how his party would roll out its free compulsory education from kindergarten to the senior high school.
"We do not believe that every child should be made to end his education at the junior high school level. The PPP, as a party, believes in ensuring that education is made available to everyone," he said.
Dr Nduom said his administration would provide a conducive environment for the take- off of its free compulsory education. He added that each school in Ghana would have facilities such as sport centres to harness the potential of the youth.
He, therefore, called on teachers to give his party the opportunity to implement its policies on the education sector, saying; "Everything the PPP intends to do will only benefit the teachers."

The General Secretary of GNAT, Mr Acheampong, stressed the need for the government to develop a comprehensive development agenda for the education sector.
