It said it was also untrue that more than 1,500 voters would be prevented from casting their votes on December 7, 2016 due to the activities of the alleged rebels in two towns in the Bole - Bamboi District in the Northern Region.

The Public Affairs Officer of the Northern Regional Police Command, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Mr Ebenezer Tetteh, told the Daily Graphic personnel of the security agencies were firmly on the ground in the region to provide the necessary security to enable every eligible voter to exercise his or her  franchise in the December 7, polls.

He was speaking in an interview to refute reports that some Ivorian rebels have taken over the Dollar Power and Bui communities in the Bole - Bamboi District, a situation that could prevent the voters in those communities from taking part in the December 7, polls.

The reports also alleged that the rebels had also ambushed a district security committee and killed a military officer.

Palpable lies

Mr Tetteh described the reports as “a palpable lies and falsehood.”

He explained that the two communities,  noted for illegal mining, had some security challenges with criminals operating in the area and not rebels from Ivory Coast as the media reports suggested.

“As I speak to you, our men are on the ground in the two communities and no such incident has been recorded so far as the police is concerned in the region, and we are poised to deal with any security threat,” he assured.

On the alleged attack on the DISEC by the rebels, Mr Tetteh said it was also untrue.

He explained that in February this year, members of the District Security Committee (DISEC) who were on their way to Dollar Power were ambushed by unknown assailants, resulting in the death of the soldier.

The Daily Graphic  on February 6, this year, reported the death of the soldier as a result of an ambush by unknown assailants.

The soldier, whose name was given only as Staff Officer Owusu by the police, was in the company of other members of the Bole-DISEC when the incident happened.

Members of the DISEC, including the soldier, had crossed the White Volta at Ntereso, a farming community in the Bole-Bamboi District, on their way to Dollar Power, but were ambushed by some unknown assailants resulting in the death of the soldier.”
