NDC moves to unite aspirants as campaign heats up

The Eastern Regional Secretariat of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has embarked on an outreach to ensure that there is unity among party faithful before and after the party's parliamentary primaries on November 7, 2015.

The programme is expected to involve all functionaries of the party, including former and present municipal and district executives, opinion leaders, NDC interest groups, all branch executives and founding members.

The Eastern Regional Chairman of the party, Mr Bismark Tawiah Boateng, told the Daily Graphic that the exercise had been necessitated by the intensity of the parliamentary aspirants’ campaigns.

He said to ensure unity, all aspirants had been made to sign a code of conduct to be of good behaviour and avoid attacking the personalities of other contenders since the party would not tolerate any deviant behaviour.

Talk about issues

"I am therefore calling on all aspirants to talk about issues instead of insulting one another on their campaign trails," he added.

Mr Boateng warned that supporters of aspirants who would be a law unto themselves would be handed over to the police for prosecution.

He said the outreach team, which has been segmented and every executive member assigned a specific role, would tour all the 33 constituencies in the Eastern Region.

Touching on the need to fully endorse President John Mahama as the sole candidate to contest as the flag bearer of the party, Mr Boateng said the Eastern Region was expected to vote 100 per cent for President Mahama.

Infiltration into ranks

He, therefore, warned people who had infiltrated the ranks the NDC with the sole aim of voting against President Mahama to rethink of their action since they would be fished out and punished accordingly.

"We shall never vote against President Mahama since he needs a massive endorsement from our party so that he does not lose face in the NDC. There is no need to vote ‘no’. We need a massive endorsement," Mr Boateng indicated.

Constituency

On the parliamentary primaries, he said the constituencies would be zoned to ensure that delegates did not troop to one constituency centre to cast their votes.

He, therefore, expressed the hope that the election would be peaceful and the best candidates elected to represent the NDC in next year's general election.
