Asenso-Boakye donates streetlights to Bantama electoral areas

A Deputy Chief of Staff, Mr Francis Asenso-Boakye, last Monday presented 700 pieces of streetlights to all the eight electoral areas within the Bantama sub-metro as part of efforts to improve the visibility in the communities at night.

It also formed part of his efforts to support the assembly to improve security in the sub-metro.

Bantama is one of the sub-metros that makes up the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA). The rest are Subin, Nhyiaeso, Manhyia North and Manhyia South.

The presentation of the streetlights was the second by Mr Asenso-Boakye. Last year, he presented 400 pieces of streetlights to the sub-metro, bringing the total of streetlights he had presented to 1,100.

Partnership

Unlike the previous one where the assembly members had to install the lights with their own resources, Mr Asenso-Boakye has partnered Prefos Limited, an electrical company in Kumasi to install the lights at no fees to the assembly.

All the streetlights would be installed by Prefos in the areas designed at no fee to assembly members.

That, according to Mr Asenso-Boakye, was to ensure that installation fees would not become an impediment to the project.

He said the sub-metro had recorded incidents of mysterious deaths and snatching of bags at mostly unlit areas, thus posing security threat to members of the community.

Mr Asenso-Boakye, who is also an aspiring parliamentary candidate for the Bantama Constituency, said a safe environment was a prerequisite for development and explained that for the people to go about their activities freely, “they need to feel secure to go out at any time of the day without any fear.”

Constituency chairman

Earlier, the Chairman for the Bantama Constituency of the New Patriotic Party, Mr Fiifi Mensah, commended Mr Asenso-Boakye for the tremendous support to the constituency since becoming the Deputy Chief of Staff.

He said he had been at the forefront of most of the development projects within the sub metro and also championing the welfare of residents and urged him to continue to help the constituency to also have its fair share of the national cake.
