Agona East MP lauds farmers for sustaining food needs

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Agona East, Mrs Queenstar Maame Pokua Sawyerr, has lauded the efforts of farmers and fishermen in sustaining the nation’s food needs through hard work, dedication and sacrifice.

“On the occasion of this year's Farmers Day celebration, I wish to extend my warmest greetings to all farmers in my constituency, Agona East, and Ghana as a whole,” she stated.

In a statement, the MP for Agona East, popularly known as Obaatanpa, said “Whenever we sit at table for breakfast, lunch or supper, we need to remember to thank farmers and offer a word of prayer on their behalf for God to continually sustain them to keep on ensuring we have food to eat for subsistence.”

Threat of fall armyworms

She recalled that for the country to survive the threat of the fall army worms that menacingly destroyed the nation’s crops, farmers in the country had proven resilient and demonstrated commitment to the cause of the nation.

“I would like to encourage you to continue with the good work and to remember that your reward is worth far more than what the nation gives you in prizes,” she told farmers on the occasion of this year's Farmers Day celebration.

This year’s winners

To this year's winners, Mrs Pokua Sawyerr lauded their efforts and charged them to keep it up whilst those who were not included in the list of winners, she charged not to give up.

She also called on the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA) to put in place all the necessary measures to support farmers across the country to ensure food security for all.

“I want to assure you that as your Member of Parliament for Agona East, I would do everything possible to ensure that you get value for your produce,” she assured.
