The trip to present food and other relief items to victims of the recent floods in Battor and Mepe saw the presentation of items worth about GH¢40,000, which included bags of rice, maize, water and bales of clothes.

“The floods have receded but not the problems they left behind,” Togbe Dzaga said, as he presented the items to the Paramount Chief of Battor, Togbe Patamia Dzekley VII.

He said the people in the area were still deprived of their homes and livelihoods, and that made it necessary for other communities, corporate organisations and public-spirited individuals to continue to support them in various ways to stand on their feet.

Unity

He commended the people for their resilience and the strong bond of unity they maintained in their trying times and urged them to maintain that joint front even in the absence of the floods.

For his part, Togbe Dzekley expressed gratitude for the items, saying the love from the people of Klefe was highly touching. “It is a miracle we survived the disaster, which befell us in the night,” he said.

Togbe Dzekley said the floods ravaged 32 communities in and around Bator, adding that the trauma on the people and communities would take a long time to heal.

Mepe

Later in the day, Togbe Dzaga made a similar presentation in Mepe to the Mankrado of the town, Togbe Kosi Nego VI. Togbe Nego thanked the team from Klefe for the items and said their concern for the flood victims was most gratifying and the love for their kinsmen in North Tongu reassuring.

He said the Volta River Authority (VRA) could not escape blame for the dreadful floods and insisted it was time the authority gave Ghanaians a tangible reason for the spillage.
