Akwatia roads to be rehabilitated

Addressing the chiefs and people of the Denkyembour District to mark the Denkyembour festival at Akwatia last Saturday, the Vice-President further assured the people that the government was aware of their concerns for an improvement in their road network.

Project funding

Mr Amissah-Arthur said the government had secured funding for the rehabilitation of roads leading to cocoa growing areas from which the Akwatia roads were also to benefit.

He further announced that work would soon commence for the construction of the Akwatia-Kusi Bridge which was impeding economic activities in the area.

The festival coincided with the 20th anniversary of the Akwatiahene, Osabarima Kofi Boateng III.

Water and education

Mr Amissah-Arthur stated that the Akwatia water expansion project was helping to solve the water problems in the area and its surrounding communities, and expressed the conviction that further expansion works would improve the situation.

He said the government had made substantial progress in the construction of the community day senior high schools, adding that as part of the initiative, Akwatia was also to benefit from the school project.

Member of Parliament

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Akwatia, Mr Baba Jamal, in a goodwill message, congratulated Osabarima Boateng III on his leadership qualities over the last two decades that had brought about major developments.

The Denkyembour District Chief Executive, Mr Kwaku Ofori-Abrokwaa, entreated the people to use the festival to take stock of the past and reflect on the progress that had been chalked up in the area.

He said the district assembly would ensure that the needed development programmes were implemented to the letter and called for a stronger collaboration between the district assembly and the traditional authorities.

Osabarima Boateng III, earlier in his welcome address, had thanked the government for carving a separate district for the area which was helping to accelerate the development of the area.

Recounting some of the development projects in the area including the improved water supply situation, the Akwatiahene, however, asked the government to pay attention to the broken down bridge that had been a cause for concern.

The Vice-President had earlier led a government delegation to attend the funeral and burial service of the late Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Effutu, Nii Ephraim, at Winneba.

Mr Amissah-Arthur, who recounted his personal relationship with the MCE, described him as a selfless individual who dedicated his life to serve the country. He was 69.
