Teacher-centred learning to change — Deputy Minister
A Deputy Minister of Education, Ms Gifty Twum Ampofo, says education in Ghana will soon move away from the teacher-centred form of learning to a competence-based form where learners will be encouraged to constantly look for ways to improve themselves and their environments.
At a training workshop for businesses and professionals in the printing industry, she said the current structure placed so much emphasis on learners just passing exams rather than the learners developing their core competencies to become problem solvers in future.

A press statement from the organisers, Docutech Ghana Limited, said the two-day workshop benefited more than 80 business professionals and educators.
The event was dubbed 'Xerox Find Your Solution'.
Ms Ampofo was the guest of honour.

Speaking on ‘Examination and Education Print and Opportunities for Publishers and Book Printers', the Deputy Minister, who is also the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Abuakwa North, expressed the hope that the improved technologies demonstrated to the participants would help the ministry and the government to achieve the goal.
"We also hope that our educational materials are of the finest quality with sharp images to facilitate easy learning and raise the interests of students in school materials," she said.
She thanked Docutech Ghana Limited, which is the authorised local distributor of Xerox products in Ghana, for the workshop and charged participants to put the experiences acquired to good use.

The event was attended by professionals from diverse sectors, including the Vice President of Barclays Bank Ghana, Mr Joshua Kofi Rockson; the President of the Ghana Institute of Procurement and Supply, Mr Collins Agyemang Sarpong; the Head of IT at Ecobank Ghana, Mr Rexford Darko, and Mr Derrydean Dadzie of the Ghana Chamber of Technology.
The Managing Director of Docutech Ghana, Mr Jean Louis Feghali, said the company was proud to provide the most comprehensive and competitive service for its customers.
"We are pleased to organise this workshop with our colleagues and Xerox experts to discuss how we can drive digital transformation in printing in a risk-free, efficient and environmentally friendly way in order to stay competitive,” he added.
The statement explained that the first session targeted persons in professional bodies, banks, telecoms, ministries, private and public agencies and aimed to introduce Xerox's latest workplace applications that supported the ever-evolving needs of businesses.
It featured demonstrations of the features of the new printing software, including Cloud CRM Integration, Proof Reader, Translators, Paper To Audio, Docushare and Mobile Phone Connection.
According to the statement, facilitators also engaged participants in a surprise examination to show them how printers could grade papers, curb examination malpractices while limiting pressure on examiners.
It said since 2010, Docutech had partnered Xerox to provide innovative solutions for businesses in Ghana.
