Fan Club spelling competition — 16 Schools for knockout

Sixteen Junior Graphic Fan Clubs have qualified to participate in the knockout stage of the National Junior Graphic Fan Club Spelling Competition organised by the Junior Graphic for fan clubs nationwide.
In the preliminary stages, 52 fan clubs represented by three students each participated in the competition in the various regions across the country.
The 16 clubs which have so far qualified for the next stage of the contest will have to justify their inclusion in the grand final which would be held during the Junior Graphic Fun Fair in Accra in November.
The Editor of the Junior Graphic, Mrs Mavis Kitcher, said out of the 16 fan clubs which have qualified for the knockout stage, eight were from the Northern, Upper East, Upper West and Ashanti Regions.
The rest were from the Eastern, Volta, Western and Central Regions.
They would, therefore, join their counterparts in Accra for the contest.
She said the eight fan clubs from the various regions would have an all-expense-paid trip to Accra for the knockout stage at the Graphic Communications Group Limited head office.
Participants for the knockout contest would ballot for placement in four groups, she added.
After the knockout contest, Mrs Kitcher said the fan clubs which placed first in each of the four groups would qualify for the grand finale.
The champions of last year’s competition, Kabore Basic School in the Volta Region, she said, would join the other contestants as defending champions in the final stage of the competition.
The Editor congratulated all the schools which participated in the competition for their hard work and encouraged them to continue studying new words so as to excel and win prizes for themselves and their schools.
Last year, each of the contestants of the winning school had a desktop computer, suitcases, pressing irons and educational materials. Their school was also awarded four white boards.
The second to fourth winners also received attractive prizes.
