Correction: 'Judiciary needs financial autonomy'

The attention of the Judicial Service of Ghana has been drawn to the Editorial of October 3, 2023, issue of the Daily Graphic.

The first line of the seventh paragraph of the Editorial used the expression, “to add insult to injury” in relation to the essence of a speech delivered by the Chief Justice, Justice Sackey Torkornoo at the conference of the Association of Magistrates and Judges on September 26, 2023.

As much as the Chief Justice appreciates the Editorial for highlighting the theme of judicial independence raised at the 2023 AMJG conference, she must respectfully object to the words “to add insult to injury” as arising from her speech.

The said expression is deprecatory and does not at all express any part of speech of the Lady Chief Justice.

This is because the Chief Justice never expressed or intimated that the Judiciary felt insulted or injured on account of the higher funding given to other institutions.

We trust that this request for correction will be published in your esteemed newspaper.
