Stevo Atambire launches new album tonight

 Titled Teach Me, the19-track collection was recorded in Accra and produced by Wanlov The Kubolor and Percy Yip Tong from Mauritius, a project they describe as “a unique West and East African collaboration from the Atlantic to the Indian Ocean.”

Though he has both feet firmly rooted in Ghanaian traditional music, Atambire has always had a knack for exploring contemporary sounds of all sorts. His searching spirit has led him to collaborate with artistes such as Yaa Pono, Eli, Gyedu Blay Ambolley, Medikal, Wanlov. The Kubolor and Villy from Nigeria on this new album.

Atambire adopts a varied approach to the music on ‘Teach Me’ and ends up with a tasty blend of sounds. Lovers of highlife, jazz, blues, Afro-beat and reggae all have something to savour in the collection.

“I have always been exploring new ways of doing things and that’s one of the reasons why I have a respectable international following at the moment. I do things that touch people from divergent backgrounds and with distinctive tastes for music,” says the well-travelled Atambire who sings mostly in pidgin English and Gurene (Frafra), a language from the Upper East Region.

Artistes expected to perform at the concert, apart from Stevo and his Alostmen Band, include Wanlov The Kubolor, Eli, Soorebia and Surprise Acts.

On a danceable track called Kologo on the album, Stevo sings: “Everybody, bring your dancing shoes. Come let’s party. I want to see you move.”

That’s exactly what he hopes will happen at the 7p.m. album launch tonight.
