Kumasi: Memory Lane PGA 2023 Tournament tees off at Royal Golf Club today

The prestigious Royal Golf Club Kumasi is gearing up to host the Memory Lane PGA 2023 tournament, which is the second flagship event of the year. The four-day professional medal event is scheduled to take place from Tuesday, June 6th to Friday, June 9th, 2023.

In accordance with the rules of the Royal & Ancient Golf Club, St Andrews, and the local rules of Royal Golf Club Kumasi, the tournament will feature a reduced field of players after the second day. The number of players will be adjusted to match the total number of prizes available for the top eighteen golfers.

In the event of a tie for first place, a thrilling play-off will be conducted to determine the ultimate winner. Similarly, if any round is interrupted due to rain or unforeseen circumstances, the winners will be decided based on the number of holes completed throughout the tournament.

The Memory Lane PGA 2023 offers an impressive prize fund, with the champion set to walk away with 4,500 GHC. Even the 18th position will be rewarded handsomely, receiving a cash prize of 2,000 GHC. The tournament also includes the Quest Tour division, which features amateur scratch players with a handicap of 5 or below. These players will compete from Tuesday, June 6th to Thursday, June 8th, 2023, without any cut-off.

The opening ceremony of the tournament promises to be a star-studded affair, with the presence of esteemed personalities such as Kwaku Okyere, the President of Ghana Golfers Association, Mark Cofie Jr., the President of PGA Ghana, and other distinguished guests. Additionally, there is a chance that players may have the privilege of witnessing the presence of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene of the Ashanti Kingdom.

The tournament is expected to conclude by 2 pm, followed by a presentation of prizes and speeches. Ahmed Padori, the Director of Operations for PGA Ghana, expressed his excitement about the forthcoming event, emphasizing the intensive preparations underway to ensure a successful organization of the Kumasi edition of the Memory Lane PGA championship. Padori encouraged all participating golfers to intensify their preparations for the competition.

Furthermore, the Memory Lane PGA championship will serve as a precursor to the main PGA championship, which will take place at Damang Golf Course in Tarkwa, Western Region, later in the year. Golf enthusiasts can look forward to thrilling competitions at these upcoming events, showcasing the talent and passion of Ghana's golfing community.
