NSA ends vetting of YEA beneficiaries

The Director General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Prof. Peter Twumasi, says his outfit will begin mopping up registrants of the special scheme launched by the Youth Enterprise Agency (YEA) and the NSA to provide the GH¢500 stipend for elite athletes in the country.

Registration of athletes
This follows the completion of the registration of athletes of the various sporting associations and federations at the Accra Sports Stadium yesterday.
“We have completed the registration of athletes for the YEA stipend programme and we will begin the mopping up that entails reviewing the authenticity of beneficiaries and registering those that are left out,” he told Daily Graphic in an interview in Accra yesterday.
YEA scheme
The scheme, launched a month ago, is aimed at providing GH¢500 to 1,000 elite national athletes who are not on the government’s payroll or have no means of sustenance.
The project is also expected to cushion the athletes against the adverse effects of the coronavirus pandemic which has halted all sporting activities in the country.
Expert advice
Prof. Twumasi revealed that his outfit was relying on experts for information and advice to ensure the resumption of sporting activities in phases.
“We are monitoring how things are unfolding and also relying on the President for advice so that we can have confidence in resuming sporting activities,” he noted.
