Appiah’s big load: Vows to surmount World Cup challenge

Black Stars coach, Kwasi Appiah, says he is not oblivious of the daunting task ahead at next year’s FIFA world Cup in Brazil but he is determined to work hard with his players and prepare well to face any team   despite being pitted against, European giants Germany and Portugal, as well as the USA at the group stage.

Appiah told the media last Wednesday night on his arrival in Accra from the World Cup draw in Brazil that he was confident he possessed one of the best teams in the world with world class players who could take on any side in the World Cup.

Despite his team being handed a difficult draw, the coach remained optimistic he would qualify from the group, with an ambition to improve upon Ghana’s performance in their two previous world Cup appearances.

“I always think positive and my ambition is to improve upon our performance and make Ghana proud at the World Cup,” said Appiah, who served as assistant coach to Serbian, Milovan Rajevac, at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

The coach said he was impressed by the training facilities allocated to his team, as well as the stadia in which the Black Stars would be playing and hoped  the prevalent tropical climate there would be favourable enough for his team.

GFA president, Kwesi Nyantakyi, promised to reveal their preparation programmes for the team next week which would include the kind of friendly matches that would be outlined for the Black Stars.

He said Ghana’s entourage to the draw, which included the Minister of Youth and Sports, Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, and other FA executives, also toured hotel facilities which had been shortlisted by FIFA for the team.

According to the FA boss, Ghana was also in competition for the same hotel with Greece which would later be balloted.
