Can Dwarfs halt Kotoko?

High-flying Kumasi Asante Kotoko head into Sunday's Premier League clash with Ebusua Dwarfs determined to protect their six-point cushion to ensure they remain atop the log by the end of the year, as 15th-placed Dwarfs fight to move out of the relegation zone after recent run of poor results.

Defending champions Kotoko last Sunday capitalised on costly slips by second-placed Accra Hearts of Oak and third-placed AshantiGold to consolidate their lead and will seek to exploit Dwarfs’ home frailties lately, including a 0-1 loss to Hearts.

Mas-Ud Dramani's team have also had their troubles away this season losing thrice, but when they visit the Robert Mensah Stadium in Cape Coast nothing less than a victory will be expected by their followers, particularly with the home side struggling to find the winning formula having already lost seven matches in 14 games (including three out of seven home matches) this season.

In a move to halt their sloppy form, Dwarfs have replaced coach Prof. Joseph Kwame Mintah with a former player of the club, Rashid Iddi, who was assistant to Prof. Mintah until his elevation this week. But on Sunday, he will have the biggest opprtunity to cause what would be the most shocking result in this years' campaign as Dwarfs need a favourable result to restore their confidence and to begin a much-needed revival.

GFA president Kwesi Nyantakyi's Wa All Stars are in 14th place and face another daunting task as they host Mohammed Polo's Hearts of Oak at the Wa Park.

All Stars have won only four matches out of 14 games (two wins out of seven home games) and are expected to bite the dust against a Hearts side who have lost just once (against Ashgold) away this season.

In rejuvenated Kofi Abanga, who is enjoying his game under Coach Polo, schemer Winful Cobbinah and midfield destroyer Moro Abubakar, the Phobians possess the necessary arsenal to condemn All Stars to their eighth defeat this season.

Other interesting fixtures pit Dansoman-based Liberty Professionals against Kpando Heart of Lions at the Accra Stadium, while Ashgold will attempt to keep the pressure on the title chasers when they face Berekum Chelsea at the Len Clay stadium at Obuasi.
