He said financial arrangements by the government towards the project had been completed, paving the way for work to proceed.

The Vice-President was addressing a durbar of the chiefs and people of the Oguaa Traditional Area to climax this year’s Oguaa Fetu Afahye at the Victoria Park, Cape Coast, last Saturday.

The week-long festival attracted a large number of people from different parts of the country and the Diaspora.

The market and the stadium projects, which are some of the major interventions by the government, have stalled for some time due to financial challenges, thereby causing extreme inconvenience to the people in the area.

However, the Vice-President said all financial challenges had been cleared by the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning to make for the completion of the projects on time.

He appealed to the communities where the projects were sited to support the projects and co-operate with the contractors in their execution.

Mr Amissah-Arthur acknowledged that there were challenges relating to education and unemployment but expressed optimism about the effectiveness of the numerous interventions put in place to resolve those difficulties.

He commended the chiefs and people of the area for undertaking many self-help projects and called for stronger co-operation among them.

The Omanhen of the Oguaa Traditional Area, Osabarima Kwesi Atta, II, commended  the 2012 presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, and all Ghanaians for accepting the Supreme Court judgement and also ensuring that peace prevailed.

He appealed to the government to expedite  action on all projects in the region, particularly the market and the stadium.

A youth leader, Mr Emmanuel Abraham, said the shrinking of public sector employment opportunities, coupled with the relatively slow growth of the private sector, had taken a toll on the youth of Cape Coast.

The Central Regional Minister, Mr Samuel Sarpong, told the youth to be patient, work hard and not resort to short-cuts to amass wealth through vices such as cyber fraud (sakawa) and armed robbery.

As part of the event, 52 brilliant, students were awarded scholarships by the Cape Coast Educational Endowment Fund.
