Tema Paramount Chief commends Zoomlion

The Paramount Chief of the Tema Traditional Area, Nii Adjei Krakue II, has lauded Zoomlion Ghana Limited for its contribution towards the provision of environmental health and sanitation services, which has created employment and assisted the development of Ghana.

He said that the company had not only excelled in its duties since its inception in the country, but it had also extended its services beyond the shores of Ghana to other countries, including Angola, Equatorial Guinea, Zambia, Togo and Liberia. It had also made waste management an attractive work which had engaged a high calibre of staff.

Nii Krakue II made these remarks at commemoration of the 10th anniversary celebrations of Zoomlion Ghana Limited in Tema on Monday. The celebration was marked on the theme: “Zoomlion @ 10…Driving Impactful Waste Management in Ghana and Beyond”.

He acknowledged the immense contribution of the staff of the company in the feat achieved by the company and urged them not to rest on their oars but strive for success in all they do.

The Board Chairperson of the Tema Zone of Zoomlion Ghana Limited, Mrs Sophia Lissah, noted that Zoomlion Ghana Limited’s role in Tema and Ghana as a whole could not be overlooked.

“It is indeed true that but for the coming in of Zoomlion, nobody would have been able to tell what the sanitation will be in this country today.  We have every cause to celebrate because we are all witnesses to how much and how far we have come in terms of sanitation and environmental cleanliness in Ghana.

She said driving impactful waste management in Ghana and beyond was something that everyone could attest to; thanks to the effort of Zoomlion Ghana Limited and added that her outfit would continue the fight against insanitary environments.

“We are even conscious of the fact that waste should not be allowed to be around us the way it is. We are responsible for our own health and we are responsible for ensuring that our areas of abode are clean and very well sanitised.”

The General Manager of Zoomlion Ghana Limited in charge of Tema Zone, Mr Seth Appiah Ocran, said the company started operation in Tema in 2006 and that from an initial staff strength of three, its present core staff were 127 and the project staff, 1,017.

The Tema region oversees six assemblies, namely, Tema Metropolitan Assembly, Ashaiman Municipal Assembly, Kpone-Katamanso, Ningo Prampram, Ada East and Ada West district assemblies, where they handle waste issues.

Other Services

Mr Ocran said besides the public works, Zoomlion offered door-to-door waste collection services, janitorial, cesspit, water tanker, landscaping and beautification services, among others.

Various speakers at the event, including the Members of Parliament for Tema East and Central, Messrs Daniel Titus Glover, and Kofi Brako, respectively; the Presiding Members of the Ashaiman and Kpone Katamanso district assemblies, Messrs Anthony Nukpenu and Alhaji Braimah B. Abdulai, commended Zoomlion Ghana for the successes they had chalked up and underscored the need for Ghanaians to take sanitation and waste management issues seriously.  He also advised them to embrace the National Sanitation Day Programme instituted by the government in order to improve on the sanitation situation in Ghana.

A float, clean-up exercise, donations to some selected clinics and orphanages and medical screening for staff and members of the public will be organised to round off the celebration.
