NGO to support educational development

Ngoli, a non-governmental organisation committed to quality education, has begun a series of campaigns to address the fallen standard of education among children within Kisseman and its surrounding communities in the Greater Accra Region.

The campaigns, which are being conducted with the participation of the headmasters of various schools within the community, are also aimed at increasing school enrolment.

The activities include a workshop for teachers and headmasters of 24 schools to identify challenges confronting the education of the children.

The organisation also organised a five-kilometre walk to, among other things, raise awareness, funds and logistics to be used in educating the children.

The walk brought together stakeholders of education in and around Kisseman with participants bringing along educational materials like exercise books and textbooks, pens and pencils to be donated to needy children in the vicinity.
It also organised a sports competition for schools in the circuit.

Fallen standard

Many of the youth in communities like Kisseman, Achimota, Christian Village, Anumle, Dome Pillar 2 and its surrounding communities do not attend school but rather engage in all types of social vices.
Many of them, according to a recent research conducted by Ngoli, had abandoned schooling and are engaging in Sakawa (internet fraud) and other criminal activities.

Ngoli on the move

Speaking to the Daily Graphic at a recently held sports competition for schools at Anumle, the president of Ngoli, Mr Amezado Raymonds, said the rationale was to get the schoolchildren from the various schools to socialise and share their experiences.
“Our society is competitive, and we should teach our children to love competitions and to accept both win and loss when they happen,” he said.

According to Mr Raymonds, Ngoli’s next project will be the construction of a 40-seater capacity computer laboratory for the Anumle cluster of schools in Accra, adding that “this project will commence on June 18, 2015 and should be handed to the schools before the new academic year, which begins in September, 2015”.

The Project Officer of Ngoli, Mr Jerry John Akunor, said the organisation was established to raise the standard of education in the country.

“We are trying to promote education in Ghana but we are starting from here,” he said.
