“Ghana’s participation in this year’s World Travel Market (WTM) Fair, held in London, United Kingdom (UK), from Monday November 2 to Thursday November 5, 2015, was to among others, promote Ghana’s culture, creative arts and tourism at the trade exhibition and encourage the people of the world to visit the country,” the minister told the press in London.

The WTM Fair, which is the world’s leading travel trade show, is an annual event held in the British Capital, London. It is seen to be the prime meeting place and also an excellent opportunity to meet business partners.

As a global travel event, the world travel market aims to increase tourism trade deals, international networking with travel professionals, buyers and also provide travel business intelligence.

For the Ministry of Tourism, the Ghana Tourism Authority and Ghanaian trade associations, the fair was a rare opportunity to promote Ghana to the UK and European markets, by focusing on buyers from the incentive, luxury travel and leisure sectors, including associations, conference organisers, incentive planners and large-group travel organisers.

According to the minister, the fair afforded Ghana the opportunity to inform and sensitise investors to investment incentives and opportunities available in the tourism, culture and creative arts sector.

“For Ghana, the World Travel Market continues to be one of the best platforms to deepen relationships with the UK and also to develop some strategic European international travel trade,”Mrs Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare said.

“The UK market is a very strong one for Ghana and both countries have a very close historical relationship which must be sustained for mutual benefits,” she pointed out.

The minister earlier spoke about Ghana’s unique tourism products in an interaction with the moderator of the ministerial summit, CNN’s Anchorman, Richard Quest.

Ghana’s participation in the WTM was climaxed with a Ghana Day celebration during which the rich Ghanaian culture - creativity in music and dance, variety of Ghanaian cuisine, as well as assorted made-in-Ghana products were displayed. The event attracted a number of Ghanaian and foreign participants who enjoyed the best of the proverbial Ghanaian hospitality.

In line with the ministry’s mandate to develop and sustain tourism for national development, the country’s delegation to the fair included officials from the Ministry of Tourism, Culture & Creative Arts, the Ghana Tourism Authority, Forestry Commission, Ghana Airports Company, private sector operators (Sunseekers, Land Tours, Apstar Tours, African Regent Hotel, Land tours and African Origin Travel and Tours.
