24 Districts get mechanised boreholes
German Development Cooperation, GIZ, has commissioned a mechanised borehole each in 24 districts across the Eastern and Bono East regions as part of activities to commemorate this year’s World Water Day.

The focus of this year’s global event, which was on the theme: “Leveraging water for peace,” and celebrated on March 22, annually, was on the importance of freshwater and its sustainable management.
About 2.2 billion people are living without access to safe water according to the UN.
The project, which was executed in partnership with beverage manufacturing companies, Blue Skies and Kasapreko PLC, will ensure access to reliable clean water for communities within the Nsawam Adoagyir, Manya Krobo, Techiman North, Nkoransa North, Tain, and Akuapem South districts.
It formed part of an initiative dubbed "COVID-19: Comprehensive pandemic management for employees, families and communities”.
The project was handed over at an event at Oboadaka in the Nsawam Adoagyir Municipality last Friday.
Significance
Team Lead of develoPPP Ghana, representing GIZ, Dr Holger Till, said the availability and sustainable management of water improves health, food and energy security, including living standards and education, among others.
The Marketing Manager of Kasapreko PLC, Linda Aidoo, also said that access to clean water was not just a necessity but a fundamental human right.
“Our partnership with GIZ underscores hard shared commitment to social responsibility and sustainable development. Together we are making a tangible difference in the lives of individuals and families and empowering them with the resources they need to thrive,” she said.
